Herb Williams constructed melting flame-shaped sculptures outside using 60,000 Crayola crayons to raise awareness of wildfires.

Okay, these are really pretty but who the fuck needs to have their “awareness of wildfires” raised? I mean, it’s fucking fire. You’ll be pretty “aware” of one when it’s happening, believe me.
An addendum: what I really object to is the whole use of “awareness” for campaigns like these. I have no idea when this started — the proper term for efforts to get people to stop causing some bad thing is “prevention.” As in the old Smokey Bear “only YOU can prevent forest fires!” campaign of eld. Saying you want to “promote awareness” means nothing — Saying you’re “aware” just means your brain works at at least a rudimentary level.
And Tumblr really sucks to have conversations with. To the person who just reblogged about fires in Texas, well yeah, throwing a lit cigarette on the ground or letting your drunken campfire burn out of control are bad things, but not giving a shit about the consequences of your actions isn’t the same thing as being unaware of them. A much better campaign than planting melty colored crayon sculptures around would be a campaign for an open season on people who throw their lit cigarettes on the ground. Its slogan can be “Remember, only YOU — and Smith and Wesson — can prevent wildfires.” orientaltiger:
